The recent visit to West Coast harbours by GOOD Leader and Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille, gave members of struggling fishing communities new insights into the future of their towns.
The Minister explained national government's programme to develop small harbours and state owned coastal properties into sites of new business opportunities, and catalysts for economic development, growth and job creation.
There are four proclaimed fishing harbours on the West Coast: Lamberts Bay, Laaiplek, St Helena Bay and Saldanha Bay.
These harbours are important spatial hubs in their communities for the growth of marine-related businesses, and entertainment and tourism opportunities.
