Parliament has wrapped up a gruelling 41 department budget week starting the process for National, Provincial and Local Governments to start implementing critical projects and services to the public which will enable us to continue fighting the spread of Covid-19 whilst we prepare to rebuild our economy.
Whilst monies are being allocated, I reiterated that as we navigate our state of disaster we must leave no room for opportunistic officials to siphon any funds to themselves.
Those guilty of stealing shouldn't be dragged through lengthy commissions. We must be decisive and make examples of corrupt individuals by sending them to jail.
As we rebuild our economy, I welcomed the establishment of Infrastructure South Africa through the Presidency and GOOD Leader Patricia de Lille's Public Work and Infrastructure Department where she serves as Minister.
With more than R340 billion invested through the Public and Private Sector this initiative has established over 270 projects that will employ 300 000 over the next few years.
Whilst it's regrettable that certain departments like Human Settlements had budget cuts like the R337 million that was moved from title deeds, we hope this will be brought back next year having won the battle against Covid 19.
For now its all hands on deck to support our health system, building and maintaining hospitals and making sure we have enough medical equipment.
In the end, GOOD will support any budget that will fight against COVID and take measures take to save lives and livelihoods.
