Parliament's Constituency period ended the first week of October, meaning that MPs have returned to committee meetings. The first joint NA and NCOP sitting of Parliament was held on the 15th October, where the President addressed us and the nation on South Africa’s economic recovery plan.
After 200 days in lockdown and with our country recently having moved to Level 1 of COVID 19 restrictions, it is time we put a bold economic plan into gear. This plan should not only restore jobs that were lost but also create opportunities for greater job creation, business recovery and new business development.
The focus has been placed on the new plan by the government, but it should be noted that not only the economy has changed. Our way of life and larger society has changed too.
The Presidency might have a plan in place for the financial sector, but I also await a plan to address social ills in our communities: particularly crime, education and health issues.
Most pressing within our media are the daily reports of murders, continued gender-based violence, thefts and police brutality. These injustices have ravaged our social and moral fabric, striking fear in our hopes to live peacefully. I'll be eager to see what the Department of Police, Social Development, Justice and all other stakeholders will produce to address these issues.
I will also give GOODs contribution to these issues so we can be a nation working together for the protection, security and prosperity of all our people.
