Vredenberg community leader, Sucilla Vantura, who has served her people as a senior councillor in the Saldanha Bay municipality for 10 years, has resigned from the DA and the council – taking the entire branch executive committee of Ward 13 in Vredenburg with her.
Vantura has announced that she will contest the by-election for her now-vacant council seat on behalf of GOOD.
She has given up position in council because she feels Coloured and African leaders in the DA are fronting for a white cabal. The "boeremafia" in control of the DA doesn't care about developing Coloured and African communities. "Ek bedank nie uit my eie gewin nie, ek doen dit vir my gemeenskap," sy sê.
"Ek was nog nooit 'n rasis nie maar mense soos Marius Schoon en Eric Marais het my bewus gemaak dat daar nog n opperhand van wit is," sê Vantura, wat as "Cilla" wydbekend is.
"I refuse to become their lapdog and puppet. I distance myself from these culprits and white bullies," she said.
"The DA leadership has blocked and undermined my vision for Vredenburg. The Mayor took unilateral decisions and cut housing projects meant for poor communities such as Laingville etc. Our people are forced into 'hokkies' and Wendy houses as backyard dwellers as the DA has no intention to build houses, or address the socio-economic challenges of Vredenburg and Saldanha Bay, in general.
"Coloured and African councillors are living and working in fear in the DA as they are being controlled by the 'white mafia'. The last five years were hell for me in the DA because I opposed the domination and baasskap of the Langebaan cabal in the Saldanha Bay Municipality.
"Ek bedank om redes van die onderdrukking, die wit kabal in die DA, en die feit dat daar glad nie leiers in die party bestaan nie – daar bestaan net base wat jou met n ysterhand beheer. Ek moes groot stry namens almal aan die onderkant van die treinspoor vir alles wat ons vir die mense wou doen, behalwe vir die pronk en prag van die Langebaans," sê sy.
"Vir die DA wil ek sê: Ons sien mekaar op die stembus waar ons moet kyk of hulle steeds hul mag kaan uitoefen op ons bruinmense, om ons te gebruik om hulle in posiesies in te stem en dan met n ysterhand geregeer word."
Vantura has served the Saldanha Bay Municipality as chairperson of various portfolio committees and a mayoral executive committee member.
"The entire DA branch executive committee and leadership of Ward 13 in Vredenburg has joined me in this decision, and have resigned as a collective from the DA. We will join GOOD and I will avail myself as a candidate in the upcoming by elections with the support of the leadership.
"Let's Fix Saldanha Bay. Change is gonna come."
